KULGAM, SEPT 18: Three persons were apprehended by Jammu and Kashmir Police after 658 gold-coloured copper pieces were recovered from a vehicle during naka checking on the National Highway near Vessu in Qazigund area of Kulgam district.

Police said a naka party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MP09CS0451, in which the three persons were travelling. During a search, 658 gold-like biscuits/coins, each weighing approximately 0.98 grams, were recovered from their possession under suspicious circumstances.

The recovered material was seized and sent for examination. Testing subsequently revealed that the items were copper plates coated or plated with a gold-coloured substance and were not pure gold.

Following the recovery, Police Station Qazigund initiated a preliminary inquiry through DD Report No. 16 dated September 18, 2026, under Order No. SDPO/Q/PE/8230 dated September 18, 2026.

The inquiry is focused on ascertaining the source of the gold-plated copper material, the circumstances of its transportation, its intended use and the role of the three persons apprehended.

Police said further inquiry and investigation are in progress, with additional details likely to emerge after verification of the material and questioning of the persons involved.
