UDHAMPUR, SEPT 15: A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen after his service rifle allegedly went off accidentally in the Majalta area of Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said.

The injured VDG member was identified as Parshotam Lal, a resident of Chore Panjian in Majalta.

Officials said the rifle discharged accidentally, causing a gunshot injury to his abdomen.

He was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

His condition was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accidental firing.
