SAMBA, SEPT 23: Police foiled an alleged bovine smuggling attempt in the Ghagwal area, rescuing 12 bovines and seizing the tractor-trolley allegedly used to transport them illegally.
According to police, a team from Police Station Ghagwal was conducting vehicle checking at NHW Naka Tapyal when it intercepted an unregistered tractor-trolley travelling from Kathua towards Samba.
During checking, police found 12 bovines inside the vehicle, allegedly tied in a cruel manner and being transported without valid permission.
Police said the bovines had been concealed under a load of paddy straw, apparently to evade detection during transportation.
The alertness and timely intervention of the police team led to the rescue of all the animals.
A case under FIR No. 95/2026, under Sections 223 BNS and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal, and further investigation has been initiated.
