SRINAGAR, SEPT 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment letters to 29 newly selected officers of the Jammu Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service and directed them to make integrity, courage, compassion and public service the foundation of their policing careers.
Addressing the newly appointed officers, Sinha said the appointment letters carried the trust, hopes and expectations of the people of Jammu Kashmir and directed them to honour that trust through professional, impartial and people-centric policing.
The Lieutenant Governor told the officers that their responsibility would go far beyond wearing the khaki uniform, stressing that they would be entrusted with protecting citizens, maintaining peace and ensuring that the rule of law prevailed under all circumstances.
He directed them to work towards creating a fear-free environment for every citizen, while ensuring that the innocent were protected and those involved in crime were dealt with strictly in accordance with law.
“Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty,” Sinha said, laying down the principle he wanted the officers to follow throughout their service.
The LG directed the officers to remain firm against emerging security threats, including terrorism, radicalisation and new forms of terror financing involving cryptocurrency and money laundering. He asked them to remain vigilant and act as sentinels for the security of Jammu Kashmir and the nation.
Sinha also directed the officers to combine authority with compassion, uphold communal harmony and remain particularly sensitive towards the rights and concerns of vulnerable sections of society.
He stressed that difficult circumstances should never become a reason to compromise integrity or duty. The officers, he said, must ensure that their decisions and conduct reflect honesty, courage, humility and respect for citizens.
The Lieutenant Governor also called upon them to protect the dignity and security of every citizen and uphold the credibility of the police uniform through their conduct.
Congratulating the 29 officers, Sinha praised their perseverance in clearing the transparent and rigorous JKPSC selection process. He also commended the Commission for maintaining fairness and impartiality in recruitment.
He said the merit-based recruitment process had opened opportunities for candidates from ordinary families, including children of vegetable vendors and labourers, to enter government service through talent and hard work.
The LG reminded the officers that their selection marked the beginning of a larger responsibility, saying their mission was not personal success but dedicated service to the people and protection of their rights.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Commissioner Secretary GAD M Raju and senior officers of the Police and Civil Administration attended the ceremony.
