KULGAM, SEPT 24: A gambling session at Nipora, Kulgam, was busted during naka checking, with police arresting five persons and seizing ₹4,020 in stake money, six mobile phones, two vehicles and playing cards.
According to police, the naka party spotted the five persons allegedly engaged in gambling activities.
On seeing the police team, they reportedly attempted to flee but were apprehended.
The accused have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganaie, son of Ab Rashid Ganaie, resident of KP Road, Anantnag; Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Hassan Bhat, resident of Monghall, Anantnag; Wahid Ahmad Mir, son of M Sultan Mir, resident of Furrah; Gulzar Ahmad Ahanger, son of Ab Gani Ahanger, resident of Vessu; and Mudassir Ahmad Parry, son of Mohd Shafi Parry, resident of Nipora, Mirbazar.
During the proceedings, ₹4,020 in cash identified as stake money, along with six mobile phones, two vehicles and a pack of playing cards, was seized.
Police said preliminary questioning further revealed that ₹6,000 had allegedly been transferred between three bank accounts in connection with the gambling activity.
Police have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated an investigation to establish the complete financial trail and ascertain the involvement of any other persons.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curbing gambling and other unlawful activities and appealed to the public to refrain from such practices and report such incidents through Dial-112.
