SRINAGAR, SEPT 26: IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar has directed field officers to ensure effective, accountable and technology-enabled implementation of Beat-Level Policing, making it a key component of preventive and community-oriented policing across Kashmir Zone.
The directions were issued during a one-day zonal conference organized by Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir at PCR Kashmir, attended by all Range DIGs, district SSPs, SSP PCR Kashmir and other field officers of the Kashmir Zone.
Addressing the conference, IGP Kashmir stressed the need to revive and institutionalize Beat-Level Policing at the grassroots level, with Beat Officers maintaining close contact with residents, identifying emerging security and crime concerns, and taking timely preventive measures.
He emphasized that beat policing must translate into visible field presence, accountability and stronger police-public coordination.
The Range DIGs reviewed the existing status of Beat Policing in their respective ranges and highlighted operational challenges.
Discussions focused on proper beat structuring, crime mapping, identification of vulnerable locations, preventive policing, surveillance and inter-agency coordination.
IGP Kashmir directed officers to ensure standardization of beat duties, clearly defined responsibilities of Beat Officers and strict adherence to prescribed protocols, while making field-level implementation more result-oriented.
The conference also laid emphasis on technology-driven beat policing. District SSPs and participating officers discussed digitization of Beat Books through structured data and innovative technological tools.
The use of CCTV networks, police databases and other digital resources was emphasized for real-time monitoring, better information management and intelligence-led policing.
The IGP stressed that Beat Officers should develop a comprehensive understanding of their respective beats, including vulnerable points, habitual offenders, emerging crime trends and local security concerns, while maintaining regular interaction with the community.
The conference concluded with directions to all field formations to ensure effective implementation of Beat-Level Policing and strengthen community engagement at the grassroots level.
Participating officers affirmed their commitment to translating the directions into sustained field-level action and making beat policing a more effective mechanism for preventive policing and public outreach.
