BARAMULLA, SEPT 26: Bijhama Police, in coordination with the concerned Block Development Office, intensified enforcement against prohibited single-use plastic by conducting a special anti-single-use plastic drive.
The joint operation was conducted by the SHO Police Station Bijhama and the concerned BDO to check the use, sale and storage of banned single-use plastic and strengthen compliance with environmental regulations.
During the enforcement drive, teams inspected different areas of the jurisdiction and seized approximately 25 kilograms of polythene and other single-use plastic material from various locations.
Besides the enforcement action, shopkeepers, business establishments and members of the public were sensitised about the ban on single-use plastic and its adverse impact on the environment, sanitation and public health.
Traders were advised to refrain from stocking, selling or using prohibited plastic items and to maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene around their establishments.
Shopkeepers were also directed to keep the requisite documentation related to their business activities available for inspection by the concerned authorities.
Police appealed to traders, business establishments and the general public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and support efforts to maintain a clean, hygienic and environmentally safe Baramulla.
