Vijaypur Police crack down on narcotics network, two peddlers held with 30 gms heroin

SAMBA, OCT 4: Intensifying its campaign against the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances, Vijaypur Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered approximately 30 grams of heroin-like substance during a naka-checking operation.

The action was carried out by a team of Police Station Vijaypur while conducting routine checking AIIMS naka. During the operation, the police team intercepted two pedestrians approaching Vijaypur from the Rakh Barotain side after their movements raised suspicion.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of approximately 30 grams of a heroin-like substance from their possession. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody and the recovered contraband was seized for further investigation.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nisar Ahmed Rather, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, resident of Bogam Batapora Qaisermulla, district Budgam, and Ikhlaq-ul-Islam, son of Ghulam Mohd Beigh, resident of Dregam Khasipora, district Budgam.

Following the recovery, FIR Number 162/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur and investigation has been initiated.

Investigators are now working to establish the forward and backward linkages of the suspected narcotics network, including the source of the recovered substance and its intended destination. Police are also examining whether the arrested persons were operating independently or as part of a wider supply and distribution chain.

The recovery during naka checking underscores the continued focus of Vijaypur Police on intercepting narcotics at the local level and disrupting the movement of drugs through the area.

Samba Police said that the crackdown against drug trafficking and peddling would continue, with surveillance, naka checking and legal action being intensified against those involved in the illicit narcotics trade.
