ATLANTA, SEPT 24: Veteran Indian actor Anupam Kher has received a commendation from the State of Georgia, USA, with Governor Brian P. Kemp personally presenting the honour to him at the Georgia State Capitol.
Kher received the recognition in the presence of First Lady Marty Kemp, with the commendation acknowledging his contributions to cinema, education and the arts, besides highlighting the cultural bond between India and the United States.
Expressing gratitude over the honour, Kher said receiving recognition for his work at the Georgia State Capitol, far from India, was a deeply moving experience.
He also shared the occasion with the Consul General and Deputy Consul General of India in Atlanta, tour promoters and members of the Indian community.
The actor said the commendation was the third honour he has received in the United States during his ongoing tour over the past 20 days.
Reflecting on the significance of the recognition, Kher said actors may not be formally appointed to represent their country, but artists can nonetheless contribute to cultural exchange by taking Indian stories, art and traditions to audiences across the world.
Kher expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp for the honour and their warmth, saying he would cherish the memorable occasion.
