Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir paid glowing tributes to the great Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh on his 131st birth anniversary, with J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma and Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma leading the tributes at different locations in Jammu.
At BJP headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Sat Sharma, Sunil Sharma, J&K BJP general secretaries Baldev Singh Billawaria and Gopal Mahajan, along with senior party leaders and workers, paid respectful tributes to the Maharaja.
Sat Sharma, along with J&K BJP vice president Rajiv Charak and MLA Vikram Randhawa, paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji at Bahu Fort. He also offered floral tributes to the revered Dogra ruler at Janipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma said that Maharaja Hari Singh occupied a unique and enduring place in the history, heritage and public life of Jammu and Kashmir, and that his vision, courage and commitment towards the people continued to inspire generations.
Sat Sharma said Maharaja Hari Singh was a ruler who worked towards strengthening the social and institutional foundations of the erstwhile State and introduced measures aimed at expanding education, improving the lives of common people and promoting a sense of responsibility towards society. His legacy, he said, should be remembered not merely through commemorative programmes but by drawing inspiration from his commitment to public welfare and progressive governance.
“Maharaja Hari Singh’s life reminds us that leadership is measured by the welfare of the people and the courage to take decisions in the larger interest of the State and its people. His contribution remains an inseparable part of Jammu and Kashmir’s history and Dogra heritage, and his ideals continue to inspire us to work for a stronger, prosperous and united Jammu and Kashmir,” Sat Sharma said.
He said that Maharaja Hari Singh’s historic role during the crucial period of 1947 remained an important chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s journey. He said that the Maharaja’s legacy should be understood in the context of the challenges of his time and his enduring place in the history of the region.
Sunil Sharma, paying tributes to Maharaja, said that the People’s Maharaja would always be remembered for his courage, administrative vision and efforts towards the welfare of his subjects. He said that his contribution to Jammu and Kashmir’s history and the preservation of its cultural and institutional heritage could not be overlooked.
Sunil Sharma said that the observance of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary provided an opportunity for the younger generation to learn about the history, sacrifices, traditions and values associated with Jammu and Kashmir. He called upon the youth to remain connected with the region’s rich heritage while contributing towards its development and progress.
