BANDIPORA, OCT 21: Police Commemoration Day 2026 was observed with solemnity and reverence at District Police Lines (DPL), Bandipora, on Wednesday, as senior civil and police officials, security force representatives and family members of martyrs gathered to honour the personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The main commemorative ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib, as chief guest. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora Tahir Saleem, Commandant of the 45th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other senior officers from the civil administration, police and CRPF were also present.
The observance provided an opportunity to pay homage to the brave personnel whose courage, dedication and supreme sacrifices remain an enduring symbol of service to the nation. The gathering remembered the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting citizens, maintaining law and order and safeguarding the country’s security.
The participation of senior officers from the civil administration and security forces reflected the collective commitment to honouring the legacy of the martyrs and recognising the invaluable contribution of personnel serving under challenging circumstances.
Family members of the martyrs also attended the ceremony and paid homage to their loved ones. Their presence added a deeply emotional dimension to the observance, highlighting the sacrifices borne by families whose loved ones gave their lives in the service of the nation.
Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The day commemorates the sacrifice of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
The observance at DPL Bandipora reaffirmed the importance of remembering the fallen personnel, supporting their bereaved families and preserving the values of courage, commitment, discipline and public service that define their legacy.
