DODA, SEPT 27: Nissar Bhalessi emerged victorious in the main contest at the Mega Dangal organised by District Police Doda under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026-27 at the Higher Secondary School Ground, Malnai Berrau, with the event witnessing 59 bouts and drawing a large gathering of spectators, sports enthusiasts and youth.
Bhalessi defeated Saifu Malook in the headline contest to claim the top prize of ₹30,000, while Malook received ₹15,000 as the runner-up.
The bout witnessed an intense display of strength, technique, stamina and sporting discipline, keeping the spectators engaged throughout the contest.
The Chhoti Mali was won by Lallan Rishu of Punjab, who defeated Shamu of RS Pura in an exciting contest.
Rishu was awarded ₹15,000, while Shamu received ₹10,000 as runner-up.
Cash prizes were also distributed among other winners and participating wrestlers to encourage continued participation in traditional sports.
Wrestlers from different parts of the country took part in the event, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their talent and compete before a large public gathering.
The programme also highlighted the importance of preserving traditional sporting practices while providing youth with healthy and constructive avenues for engagement.
As part of the outreach initiative, Doda Police also used the occasion to spread awareness under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, urging young people to stay away from drugs and substance abuse and channelise their energy towards sports, physical fitness and other productive activities.
The gathering was encouraged to cooperate with the Police in preventing drug trafficking and sharing information about illegal activities.
Awareness was also created about the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112, with citizens informed that the helpline can be used whenever immediate police assistance is required during an emergency.
The Mega Dangal formed part of District Police Doda’s wider Civic Action Programme aimed at strengthening police-public relations, promoting sporting talent, encouraging a healthy and drug-free lifestyle among youth and preserving the region’s traditional sporting heritage.
