Chattergul girls lift Cricket crown as Ganderbal Police wrap up Civic Action Tournament

GANDERBAL, OCT 6: GMS Payeen Chattergul stormed to the girls’ cricket title with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over BHSS Gund, bringing the curtains down on a Police-organised tournament at Chattergul, Kangan, that combined sporting competition with a strong focus on youth empowerment, confidence-building and constructive community engagement.

The tournament, organised by Ganderbal Police under the Civic Action Programme, saw eight teams compete for the title, giving young girls a competitive platform to display their cricketing ability while building teamwork, discipline and self-confidence through sport.

The final witnessed GMS Payeen Chattergul produce a dominant performance to overcome BHSS Gund by eight wickets, securing the championship in convincing fashion. The result capped an engaging tournament in which the participating teams displayed enthusiasm, sporting discipline and competitive spirit.

The closing ceremony was chaired by SDPO Kangan Rajeev Raina, with SHO Kangan and other senior police officers in attendance. The officers interacted with the participating players and commended them for their commitment, sportsmanship and spirited participation throughout the competition.

The tournament concluded with recognition of both team and individual excellence. The champions and runners-up were felicitated with trophies, cash prizes and appreciation certificates, while the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament were separately honoured for their outstanding performances.

Beyond the result on the field, the tournament highlighted the growing role of community-oriented sporting initiatives in providing young girls with opportunities to compete, develop confidence and pursue their sporting potential in a positive environment.

Ganderbal Police reiterated that such initiatives will continue under the Civic Action Programme, with sports being used as an important platform for youth engagement, talent promotion, discipline and stronger community connect.
