NEW DELHI, SEPT 19: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underlined the need for focused and effective financing mechanisms to accelerate development in Jammu and Kashmir while participating in the two-day high-level conference on “Financing India’s Journey towards Viksit Bharat” organised by the Ministry of Finance in New Delhi.
The conference, which concluded today, brought together the Union Finance Minister, Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers and leading public finance experts to deliberate on strategies for financing India’s long-term growth.
During the deliberations, Omar Abdullah highlighted the significance of the conference in shaping development strategies that can address the specific requirements and emerging opportunities of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of developmental financing in supporting infrastructure, public services and economic activity in the Union Territory.
He also drew attention to the need for strengthening agricultural marketing, with better financing and market linkages to help farmers derive greater value from their produce.
Renewable energy also emerged as an important area of focus, with Omar Abdullah underlining its potential for contributing to sustainable growth and creating new economic opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister noted that the exchange of ideas among the Centre, States and public finance experts provided an important platform for discussing innovative approaches to development financing and addressing long-term economic priorities.
He stressed that financing strategies must remain closely aligned with developmental needs so that investments can translate into tangible benefits for people and strengthen the economic foundations of Jammu and Kashmir.
The conference concluded with deliberations on strengthening financial and policy frameworks to support India’s broader development journey towards Viksit Bharat, with Jammu and Kashmir’s priorities also finding place in the discussions.
