ANANTNAG, SEPT 19: Anantnag Police has delivered a major blow to the local drug network, arresting seven alleged drug peddlers in a series of operations and recovering 3.173 kg of narcotic substances, including ganja and cannabis.
In the first crackdown, a team from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK13K-5967 at Hatigam Crossing and arrested Jahangir Ayoub Fashoo, resident of Zirpara, Bijbehara; Amanul Azam Dar, resident of Dogripora, Awantipora; and Sahib Amin Dar, resident of Dogripora, Awantipora. Police recovered 1.378 kg of ganja and 12 grams of cannabis from their possession.
A case FIR Number 85/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered.
The crackdown continued at Nowshara Crossing, where Srigufwara Police arrested Basit Rashid Bhat of Hugam and Mujeeb Mudasir Bhat of Khiram Durpora.
A total of 1.740 kg of ganja was recovered, leading to registration of FIR Number 86/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act.
In another operation, Police Post Sherbagh apprehended Mohd Rafiq Mochi of Furrah, Mirbazaar, at Sarnal Chicken Mohalla on High Ground Road. Twenty grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.
A case FIR Number 317/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag.
Meanwhile, Police Post Sangam caught Muna, a resident of Kehri Lakempora, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in the Sangam area while he was allegedly attempting to flee. Police recovered 23 grams of cannabis from his possession.
A case FIR Number 268/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
With the latest arrests and seizures, Anantnag Police has reiterated that the drug trade will face sustained enforcement, with legal action being pursued against those allegedly involved in trafficking and peddling narcotics.
