HANDWARA, OCT 7: In a preventive security measure aimed at preventing the misuse of telecommunication services, Handwara Police conducted inspections of SIM vendor shops at Langate under the jurisdiction of Police Post Langate, focusing on compliance with prescribed verification and record-maintenance requirements.
The checking was conducted under the supervision of IC Police Post Langate SI Ovais Abdullah, with officers scrutinising the functioning of SIM vendors and reiterating the importance of strict adherence to established procedures governing the sale and activation of mobile connections.
During the drive, vendors were directed to properly verify the identity and credentials of customers before issuing or activating SIM cards, maintain all mandatory records and ensure that prescribed documentation and verification procedures are followed without exception.
Police also sensitised vendors about the potential security implications of improperly verified or fraudulently obtained SIM cards and advised them to remain vigilant against any attempt to misuse telecommunication services.
The vendors were further directed to cooperate fully with law-enforcement agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity or irregularity noticed during the course of their business.
The enforcement initiative forms part of Handwara Police’s preventive security and regulatory compliance measures, aimed at strengthening accountability among SIM vendors and reducing the scope for misuse of communication services for unlawful activities.
Police reiterated that strict compliance with prescribed verification norms is essential for maintaining a secure telecommunications environment, and vendors found violating applicable guidelines may face action under the relevant provisions.
