SOPORE, SEPT 24, 2026: Police in Sopore cracked a hit-and-run case at Chak Rody Khan within 24 hours of the incident, arresting the accused driver and seizing the vehicle involved in the accident.
The accident occurred when a motorcycle bearing registration number JK09E-3415, carrying two persons, was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
The driver allegedly fled the spot along with the vehicle, while both injured persons were shifted to SDH Sopore for treatment.
In this connection, FIR Number 240/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the BNS was registered and investigation initiated.
Police examined CCTV footage from the accident site and adjoining routes besides using technical assistance and other investigative leads to identify the offending vehicle and its driver.
The vehicle was subsequently traced and seized, while the accused driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar, resident of Gund Jageer, Bandipora, was arrested.
Meanwhile, one of the injured persons, Haziq Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, resident of Kehnoosa, Bandipora, later succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. The other injured person is undergoing treatment.
Police said further investigation is underway and appropriate legal provisions are being incorporated in view of the subsequent death of the injured person.
