SRINAGAR, OCT 24: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar, on Saturday reviewed crime disposal, security preparedness and key policing measures across Kashmir, directing Range DIGs and District SSPs to ensure time-bound investigations, strengthen intelligence-based operations and put in place adequate winter facilities for police personnel deployed across the Valley.
Chairing a meeting in hybrid mode attended by all three Range DIGs and District SSPs of Kashmir Zone, the IGP assessed progress in criminal investigations, theft-related cases, security challenges, police infrastructure and public grievance redressal. He stressed the need for close supervision by senior officers to improve policing efficiency and ensure that cases are investigated and disposed of within the prescribed timelines.
The IGP specifically directed officers to ensure the timely investigation and disposal of cases within the stipulated 60- and 90-day timelines under the applicable provisions of the new criminal laws, emphasising accountability and regular monitoring of investigation progress. He stressed close monitoring of emerging challenges, proactive preventive measures and enhanced coordination among agencies to maintain public order across Kashmir Zone.
With winter approaching, the IGP also reviewed arrangements for police personnel working in police stations and other establishments. The meeting also examined the functioning of police nakas, with the IGP directing officers to make checking points more dynamic, effective and intelligence-driven while minimising inconvenience to the general public. He stressed stronger inter-agency coordination and greater operational synergy on the ground to improve the effectiveness of security and policing measures.
Reviewing pending investigations and cases stayed by courts, the IGP called for proper monitoring and timely follow-up in accordance with judicial directions and established legal procedures. He emphasised that pending matters must receive appropriate attention to ensure procedural compliance and prevent avoidable delays.
The meeting also deliberated on identifying suitable police stations for development as Model Police Stations and upgrading existing police stations and police posts. The proposed measures aim to improve infrastructure, raise policing standards and strengthen public service delivery.
Highlighting the importance of community engagement, the IGP directed officers to organise regular police-public meetings to address grievances, encourage public participation and strengthen trust between the police and local communities.
