JAMMU, OCT 8: Intensifying its action against illegal mining and unauthorised excavation, Jammu Police seized two Poclain/JCB machines and a tractor-trolley allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in the Akhnoor sector, with the cases being referred to the Mining Department for further action.
During an enforcement operation at Kathar, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Chowki Choura, two Poclain/JCB machines allegedly being used for unauthorised excavation were intercepted and seized by a joint police team of Police Post Chowki Choura and Police Station Akhnoor. The machinery was subsequently handed over to the Mining Department for further necessary proceedings.
In a separate action, Police Post Pallanwala intercepted a tractor-trolley bearing registration number JK02CE-6176 during early-morning patrolling. The vehicle was found loaded with sand, while its driver allegedly failed to produce valid documents or legal permission authorising transportation of the mining material.
The District Mining Officer (DMO), Jammu, is being informed to initiate further proceedings under the applicable mining laws and regulations.
The coordinated action comes amid continued efforts to curb unauthorised excavation, illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, activities that can adversely affect natural resources and local ecology.
Jammu Police reiterated that enforcement against illegal mining will remain a priority and that vehicles, machinery and persons found involved in unauthorised mining activities will face action under the law.
