REASI, OCT 7: Katra Police has intensified its crackdown on the alleged illegal procurement and distribution of intoxicant capsules (Pregabalin), a prescription medicine increasingly coming under scrutiny over its misuse for psychoactive effects, by sealing a medical shop in Bhagtaa during the ongoing investigation into an alleged pharmaceutical drug supply chain.
The action was taken in connection with FIR Number 312/2026 registered at Police Station Katra under Section 223 BNS. While tracing the source of intoxicant capsules allegedly being procured for unauthorised distribution, investigators received information concerning Hari Medicos at Main Chowk, Bhagtaa.
Acting on the lead, a police team from Police Station Katra, accompanied by the Drug Inspector, Reasi, conducted an inspection of the medical establishment. Following the inspection, the premises were sealed through the competent authorities in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory procedures.
The development assumes significance against the backdrop of growing concern over the misuse and diversion of prescription medicines. Intoxicant capsules (Pregabalin) is legitimately prescribed for specific medical conditions, but its non-medical use can produce sedative and psychoactive effects and may expose users to serious health risks, particularly when combined with other substances.
The investigation is now focused on establishing the complete supply chain, including the source of procurement, prescription and dispensing records, stock registers and the movement of the capsules. Verification of these records could help investigators determine whether the medicine was supplied in accordance with prescription and regulatory requirements or diverted for unauthorised consumption and distribution.
The coordinated inspection involving the police and Drug Control authorities also underscores the importance of monitoring pharmaceutical outlets to prevent the diversion of prescription medicines into illicit channels.
Reasi Police has reiterated that stringent action will continue against the illegal procurement, diversion and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs, with particular emphasis on protecting the health and safety of citizens as well as pilgrims visiting the Katra-Reasi region.
