SHOPIAN, SEPT 17: Keegam Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 2.472 kg of crushed cannabis-like substance during a naka checking operation at Audoora Rampathri.
A police party from Police Post Keegam, while conducting routine naka checking, noticed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and apprehended him along with a nylon bag.
A search of the bag led to the recovery of 2.472 kg of crushed cannabis-like substance.
The accused has been identified as Ab Ahad Mochi, son of Gh Mohd Mochi, resident of Audoora Rampathri.
Police said FIR Number 198/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the recovered substance and establish its forward and backward linkages.
Shopian Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug abuse and appealed to the public to share information regarding drug peddling or substance abuse in their localities. The identity of informants, it said, will be kept confidential.
