KOKERNAG, SEPT 28: Authorities in Kokernag have advised the general public to refrain from visiting or gathering near a sinkhole that appeared at Gohihard village in south Kashmir, citing safety concerns and the need to facilitate remedial work by government agencies.
In a public advisory issued by the Office of the Tehsildar, Kokernag, authorities stated that a sinkhole developed at Gohihard village on September 27, 2026.
The advisory urged people to stay away from the site until the necessary safety measures are completed and the area is declared safe.
“For the safety of general public and in order that the concerned government agencies shall work without any hindrance due to gathering of crowd at the said spot, it is advised that the general public shall refrain from visiting and gathering at or around sinkhole till remedial measures are put in place to declare this spot safe again,” the advisory stated.
Meanwhile, locals reported that another sinkhole has appeared in the Brengi Nallah at Gohihard, Kokernag, close to the location where a sinkhole had developed earlier.
According to residents, the latest formation is located slightly downstream from the previous spot, raising concerns among people living in the vicinity.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors to maintain a safe distance from the affected area until the site is assessed and remedial measures are completed.
