SRINAGAR, OCT 1: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Thursday extended his greetings to the people of Jammu Kashmir on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, calling for a renewed collective commitment to the enduring ideals of truth, non-violence, self-reliance, Swadeshi, Swachhata and Sarvodaya championed by Mahatma Gandhi.
In his message ahead of the 157th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the Lieutenant Governor paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and underlined the continuing relevance of his philosophy in shaping a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous society.
“On the occasion of the 157th birth anniversary of our Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, I extend my heartiest greetings to the people of Jammu Kashmir,” LG Sinha said.
Recalling Gandhi’s life and philosophy, the Lieutenant Governor observed that the Mahatma demonstrated to the world that truth and non-violence represent enduring paths to peace, with his principles continuing to inspire generations across the world.
“Pujya Bapu showed the world that truth, non-violence and self-reliance are eternal paths to peace. His timeless ideals of Satya, Ahimsa, Swadeshi, Swachhata and Sarvodaya continue to guide humanity and inspire us to dedicate ourselves to the country’s continuous growth and prosperity,” he said.
LG Sinha called upon citizens to use the occasion not merely as a day of remembrance but as an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the values associated with Gandhi and translate those principles into collective action.
“On this sacred occasion, let us pay heartfelt tribute to Pujya Bapu by pledging to live by his noble principles,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He particularly emphasised the importance of collective efforts towards strengthening peace, prosperity and development in Jammu Kashmir, while contributing to the broader national objective of building a developed India.
“Together, let us build a peaceful and prosperous Jammu Kashmir and developed India,” LG Sinha said.
Gandhi Jayanti is observed across the country on October 2 every year to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The occasion is marked by programmes highlighting his message of peace, non-violence, cleanliness, social harmony and service to society.
The Lieutenant Governor’s message comes as Jammu Kashmir joins the nation in commemorating Gandhi’s legacy, with Satya, Ahimsa and Swachhata continuing to form central themes of public observances marking the birth anniversary of one of India’s most influential national figures.
