POONCH, SEPT 18: District Police Poonch on Friday organised a cleanliness drive at Parade Ground Park under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, with around 100 police personnel participating in the initiative aimed at promoting civic responsibility, environmental protection and community welfare.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of SSP Poonch Shafkat Hussain Bhat, JKPS, with officers and jawans carrying out extensive cleaning of the park premises. Police personnel collected waste material and discarded items from different parts of the park and ensured that the surroundings were made clean and hygienic.
Speaking during the drive, SSP Shafkat Hussain Bhat stressed that cleanliness should be a continuous public responsibility rather than a one-day activity. He urged residents to use designated dustbins and ensure proper disposal of garbage instead of dumping waste in public places.
The SSP also directed greater awareness among the younger generation about the health and environmental hazards associated with improper waste disposal. He said accumulated garbage can become a breeding ground for disease-causing organisms and pose risks to public health besides damaging the environment.
Highlighting the importance of Parade Ground Park, the SSP said the centrally located public space is frequented by residents for exercise, recreation, relaxation and family activities, making its cleanliness essential for the health and well-being of the community.
He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in keeping public spaces clean and discourage littering. Emphasising the message “Clean Surroundings, Healthy Society,” he urged the people to make cleanliness a daily habit and contribute towards making Poonch a cleaner and healthier town.
The SSP further underlined that police-public partnership extends beyond conventional policing, with District Police Poonch committed to supporting initiatives related to public welfare, civic responsibility and environmental protection.
Among those who participated in the drive were DySP DAR Poonch Shashi Kant Raina, DySP Operations Poonch Azhar Amin and SHO Poonch City Aijaz Wani, besides other officers and personnel of District Police Poonch.
District Police Poonch appealed to citizens to avoid littering, use designated dustbins and maintain cleanliness in public spaces, stressing that collective participation is essential for creating a clean, healthy and environment-friendly Poonch.
