JAMMU, OCT 4: The BJP will take its Sewa Jyoti Yatra to all 20 administrative districts of Jammu and Kashmir on October 7, seeking to turn the ongoing Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan into a wider public movement centred on service, nationalism and nation-building.
J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma said the Yatra would carry the message of “Sewa for Society, Sewa for Nation” to people across the Union Territory and provide a platform for prominent citizens, civil society representatives, youth and BJP workers to participate in activities aimed at strengthening social engagement and public service.
Addressing a review meeting of the ongoing Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan at BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, Sharma said the programme was more than an organisational exercise, describing it as an effort to connect the spirit of public service directly with society and encourage citizens to contribute to nation-building.
The Yatras will carry the Sewa Jyoti and the Tiranga, with participation expected from civil society members and people from different sections of society. Sharma said the combination of the service flame and the national flag would underline the themes of patriotism, unity, social responsibility and commitment to a stronger and self-reliant India.
The October 7 programme also carries political significance for the BJP as it marks 25 years since Narendra Modi entered public life as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. Sharma said Modi’s subsequent tenure as Prime Minister from 2014 represented a continuous journey of public service, adding that the anniversary should be viewed in terms of the commitment to serving the people rather than merely the positions held.
The review meeting assessed district-wise preparations, mobilisation and participation plans for the October 7 Yatra. It was attended by District Prabharis and Seh-Prabharis, District Presidents, MLAs and Morcha Presidents, besides senior party functionaries.
BJP Vice-President Rakesh Mahajan said the Yatra would take the message of service directly to the people and encourage greater public participation in nation-building. General Secretary Sanjita Dogra stressed that participation from diverse sections would give the campaign an inclusive and social character.
General Secretary Baldev Singh Billawaria said the Tiranga and Sewa Jyoti would together convey a message of patriotism, unity and service, while General Secretary Gopal Mahajan said the initiative would enable BJP workers to strengthen their direct engagement with society by involving prominent citizens, youth and other sections.
MLA Sham Lal Sharma, who is coordinating the Yatra for Jammu district, called for enthusiastic participation and said the initiative would seek to transform the message of service into a collective public movement while maintaining its nationalist character.
The BJP leadership has directed its district-level organisational machinery to ensure effective coordination and broad-based participation, with the October 7 Sewa Jyoti Yatra positioned as a major public outreach component of the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan across Jammu and Kashmir.
