SHOPIAN, SEPT 27: Tightening the noose around illegal mining operators, Shopian Police seized two tractors, one dumper and a JCB allegedly involved in the unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district and registered two FIRs in separate cases.
During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Shopian intercepted and seized two tractors allegedly being used for extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents.
A case FIR Number 201/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant provisions of law, and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, a team from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized a JCB and a dumper allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without mandatory permission.
A case FIR Number 125/2026 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora, with further investigation underway.
The action underscores Shopian Police’s continued enforcement against illegal mining and unauthorised exploitation of natural resources. Police said strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in such activities.
The public has been urged to report illegal mining and transportation of minerals to the Police, with assurances that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
