LEH, SEPT 22: A seven-day Advanced Refresher Course for tour and travel guides and operators was inaugurated on Monday at the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Leh, with a focus on strengthening professional skills and promoting sustainable tourism in Ladakh.
The training programme is being organised by SIHM Ladakh in collaboration with DCI Multi Skills Private Limited.
The inaugural function was attended by Principal SIHM Leh Sachin Bali, Vice-President Taxi Union Rinchen, tour and travel guide Ajaz Ahmad, and Navid Wani of DCI Multi Skills Private Limited.
The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by presentation of khataks to the dignitaries.
Addressing the participants, Sachin Bali underlined the importance of professional training and skill development in strengthening Ladakh’s tourism sector.
He urged participants to make full use of the seven-day course to enhance their capabilities and informed that certificates would be awarded on successful completion of the training.
Navid Wani highlighted the need for sustainable tourism practices and skilled professionals to promote Ladakh as a responsible tourism destination. He also stressed the potential of social media in showcasing homestays and tourism opportunities in remote areas.
Rinchen underscored the tourism sector’s importance to livelihoods across Ladakh and called for closer coordination among stakeholders. He also emphasised preserving the region’s distinctive culture and identity while pursuing sustainable growth in tourism.
The course is aimed at equipping tourism professionals with updated knowledge and practical skills to improve visitor experiences and contribute to the responsible development of Ladakh’s tourism industry.
