JAMMU, SEPT 23: DIG Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shridhar Patil, has directed senior officers to strengthen police checkpoints across the range and ensure round-the-clock checking of vehicles at strategic and vulnerable locations to plug security gaps and enhance surveillance.
While reviewing the progress on capacity building of police checkpoints, the DIG assessed the arrangements for effective checking of suspected vehicles as well as the availability of basic facilities for police personnel deployed at these points.
Patil directed officers to rationalise and strengthen existing checkpoints on the basis of vulnerability, traffic movement and operational requirements, while identifying locations where additional security measures are required.
He stressed that strategically important checkpoints must maintain effective 24×7 vehicle checking and remain adequately manned.
The DIG further called for systematic verification of vehicles and documents, with special attention to suspicious, stolen and blacklisted vehicles.
Officers were directed to maximise the use of available technology, including CCTV surveillance and other digital tools, to strengthen vehicle identification, monitoring and information sharing.
Emphasising the need for properly equipped checkpoints, Patil directed officers to ensure proper barricading, adequate lighting, sufficient manpower and essential facilities for personnel performing checkpoint duties.
He also stressed stronger inter-district coordination so that information regarding suspicious vehicles and persons is shared promptly and appropriate action is taken without delay.
The DIG called for regular supervisory inspections of checkpoints and directed officers to maintain checkpoint-wise performance records to monitor checking, manpower deployment, deficiencies and corrective measures.
SSPs were instructed to identify shortcomings at existing checkpoints, rectify deficiencies on priority and submit updated compliance reports.
The directions were aimed at making police checkpoints more effective, technology-enabled and responsive to emerging security requirements across the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range.
