JAMMU, SEPT 22: The Central University of Jammu organised the Dogra Virasat Mahotsav to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh and showcase the rich cultural heritage, traditions and historical legacy of the Dogra region.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain paid floral tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh in the presence of Dean Research Studies Prof. Asit K. Mantry, Dean Student Welfare Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean School of Business Studies Prof. Neelika Arora, faculty members and students.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Jain stressed the need to preserve and promote Dogra heritage among the younger generation. He said such programmes provide students an opportunity to understand their historical roots, traditions and cultural identity while developing greater appreciation for the region’s heritage.
The celebration featured a range of cultural activities, including a special Dogri dance performance by girl students on a Dogri mashup. The performance highlighted the vibrant artistic traditions of Jammu and received an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Student Janvi Sharma delivered a speech on the life, contributions and legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh, highlighting his historical significance and association with the development and heritage of the region.
The programme provided students a platform to engage with the history, traditions and cultural identity of the Dogra region, while reinforcing the University’s efforts to promote awareness and appreciation of local heritage.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and an address on the history of the Dogra dynasty by Dr. Naresh Kumar Sharma, Principal, Community College, who expressed gratitude to the University authorities, faculty members, students and all contributors for making the programme successful.
