SRINAGAR, SEPT 21: J&K Police intensified its anti-drug crackdown across Kulgam and Shopian, arresting three alleged drug peddlers and recovering more than 2.7 kilograms of suspected narcotics during separate naka and checking operations.
In Kulgam, a Police Post Mir Bazar team intercepted a scooty at Chidhama and recovered 21 grams of cannabis-like substance from its storage compartment.
The rider, identified as Sahil Ahmad Wani, son of Javid Ahmad Wani of Devalgam, Kokernag, Anantnag, was apprehended and the contraband seized.
In Shopian, Police Station Keller personnel intercepted a Tata Sumo (JK22-3033) during naka checking at Keller market and recovered 154 grams of cannabis powder-like substance from the driver, identified as Mohd Yousuf Chopan, son of Gh. Mohd Chopan of Keller Bongam. The vehicle was also seized.
A caseFIR Number 96/2026 has been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation initiated to trace the source of the contraband and establish its forward and backward linkages.
In another operation, a Police Post Keegam team intercepted a suspicious person at Audoora Rampathri and recovered 2.55 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance from a bag in his possession.
The accused, identified as Gh. Mohd Mochi, son of Rustum Mochi of Audoora Rampthri, was arrested.
A case FIR Number 199/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian, with further investigation underway.
Police said checking and enforcement operations will continue to target drug trafficking networks and their supply chains, while urging the public to share credible information about drug peddling or substance abuse with the nearest police station.
The identity of informants, police said, will be kept confidential.
