ANANTNAG, SEPT 26: Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 40 grams of cannabis from his possession during naka checking on the Tulkhan–Bijbehara road, officials said.
A police party from Police Station Bijbehara intercepted a suspicious person during the checking and identified him as Fiyaz Ahmed Sheikh, son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh, a resident of Fruit Mandi Parimpora, Srinagar, presently residing at Eidgah, Bijbehara.
During his search, police recovered 40 grams of cannabis from his possession.
The accused was subsequently arrested and taken to Police Station Bijbehara for further legal proceedings.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish the involvement, if any, of other persons linked to the illegal drug trade.
Police said strict action would continue against those involved in narcotics-related activities as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and strengthen the campaign for a drug-free society.
