BARAMULLA, OCT 5: Intensifying its preventive crackdown on the misuse and unauthorised distribution of pharmaceutical drugs, Baramulla Police, in coordination with the Executive Magistrate and Drug Inspector, conducted surprise inspections of medical shops in the Kreeri area to ensure strict compliance with drug-control regulations.

During the joint inspection, medical establishments were thoroughly scrutinised, with officials checking the availability, storage and sale of medicines and examining records to ensure that banned, prohibited or unauthorised pharmaceutical products were neither stocked nor sold in violation of prescribed norms.

The inspection team also focused on compliance with mandatory documentation requirements, directing medicine retailers to maintain updated registers, purchase and sale records and other statutory documents, particularly in respect of restricted and controlled medicines. Shopkeepers were clearly cautioned against selling medicines without proper prescriptions or maintaining inadequate records that could facilitate their misuse.

Officials warned that any violation of drug-control provisions, including unauthorised stocking, illegal sale, diversion of restricted medicines or failure to maintain requisite records, would invite strict legal action under the applicable provisions of law.

The surprise inspection forms part of the district-wide preventive strategy to plug possible channels through which pharmaceutical drugs can be misused and to ensure that medical establishments operate strictly within the regulatory framework.

Baramulla Police reiterated that such inspections and enforcement measures will continue at regular intervals, underscoring its focus on preventing pharmaceutical drug abuse, strengthening regulatory compliance and protecting the community from the adverse consequences of illicit drug distribution.
